Belly Dance Levels at TanzLab
In our sign styles at the TanzLab, our goal is to train unique and strong dancers.
Our program combines technical training, musical understanding, and choreography, allowing students to not only learn movements but also understand how to apply them with confidence and personal expression.
While many classes include choreography as a learning tool, we also offer Fundamentals classes, where dancers can focus more deeply on movement technique, body control, and precision.
This structure allows students to build strong foundations, grow step by step, and develop their own unique dance identity from beginner to advanced levels.
From Zero Classes
These classes are designed for students who are completely new to belly dance.
We offer two options, depending on your learning pace and previous dance experience.
1. From Zero – Slow Pace
Ideal for students who prefer to learn step by step at a comfortable pace.
In this class you will work on:
- Basic belly dance movements
- Hip Vocabulary
- Basic coordination
- Simple choreographies/combinations to develop muscle memory
Perfect for absolute beginners or anyone who prefers a slower learning rhythm.
2. From Zero – Fast Learners
This class is designed for students who have previous experience in any dance style, but are new to belly dance.
If you already have coordination & body awareness, you will mainly focus on adapting your technique to the oriental dance style.
In this class you will work on:
- Adapting your dance background to the oriental dance style
- Learning the fundamental belly dance movements
- Combinations and transitions
- Choreographies designed for quick learners
- Introduction to musicality
Ideal for dancers with previous dance experience.
Beginner – Choreo Class
This level is designed for dancers who already know the basic belly dance movements and want to start developing more confidence and fluency.
In this class you will work on:
- Strengthening fundamental movements
- Coordination between arms, hips, and traveling steps
- Longer combinations and transitions
- Developing musicality
- Choreographies that reinforce technique and flow
This level helps dancers build confidence and fluidity in their movement vocabulary.
Fundamentals Classes
The Fundamentals Classes focus primarily on technical training and should be taken as a complement to your main choreography class.
These classes are highly important and strongly recommended, as this is where the technical steps, movement precision, and body control are developed in depth.
While the choreography classes apply movements within music and combinations, the Fundamentals classes focus on building the technical foundation that allows your dance to evolve with greater clarity, control, and quality.
Fundamentals I
Recommended for Beginner-level dancers who want to strengthen their technical foundations and develop correct technique from the start.
Fundamentals II
Recommended for Intermediate and Advanced dancers who want to refine, clean, and polish their technique.
💡 Taking a Fundamentals class together with your Choreo Class is one of the most effective ways to progress faster and build strong technique in belly dance.
Which Level Is Right for Me?
If you are unsure which class to choose, this quick guide may help.
From Zero – Slow Pace
Choose this class if:
- You have never danced belly dance before
- You prefer learning step by step
- You want a slower and more relaxed learning rhythm
- You have no dance experience
From Zero – Fast Learners
Choose this class if:
- You are new to belly dance
- But you have danced other styles before
- You learn choreography quickly
- You already have coordination and some musicality
Beginner
Choose this class if:
- You know the basic belly dance movements
- You can follow simple combinations
- You feel comfortable dancing to oriental music
- You want to build more confidence and fluidity
Intermediate
Choose this class if:
- You have solid control of the basic movements
- You can perform double turns
- You can add simple layers to movements
- You recognize some basic darbuka rhythms
- You can learn medium-complex choreographies
Advanced
Choose this class if:
- You have several years of belly dance experience
- You learn choreography quickly
- You are comfortable with complex turns, shimmies, and layers
- You can dance with musical interpretation and expression
Intermediate – Choreo Class
The Intermediate level is designed for dancers who already feel comfortable with the fundamentals of belly dance and want to develop more complexity in their dancing.
In this class you will work on:
- Adding layers to basic movements
- More dynamic combinations
- Double turns and more complex traveling steps
- Greater familiarity with darbuka rhythms
- Choreographies with increased technical detail
This level focuses on expanding your movement vocabulary and improving musical interpretation.
Advanced – Choreo Class
The Advanced level is designed for experienced dancers with a strong technical foundation in belly dance.
Choreographies at this level become faster, complex, and more musically detailed.
In this class you will work on:
- Advanced musical interpretation (rhythm and melody)
- Multiple movement layers
- Complex turns and combinations
- Advanced shimmies
- Performance quality and artistic expression
This level focuses on precision, musicality, and performance development.
